Space Empires is a long-running PC game that makes its way to Facebook. Big thanks to the wonderful people at NVINIUM Games for giving me the chance to get a sneak peak at this game. As you are reading this the game is already ready to play (in beta) on Facebook. What they have shown me is quite impressive: you can attack other planets, go in to quick battles right from the start - right from your browser. To me that is really impressive; all this in Firefox or whatever browser you use. We have come a very long way from little flash games to full online games right from the comfort of your browser.
So what did they add to the game? Among other things they added farming. I know what you are thinking: this sounds like a really bad idea, but not when you farm - you get minerals for your tanks and vehicle. This is important because when people attack you, you want to be strong so you can win. There are 150 planets in the world so it will take some time to explore the whole thing. And there is a quick warp so you can move though the galaxy quickly. This is cool because it cuts down the time it takes to get from one place to another. One more feature in the game: you can group up with people so you can be Captain and have a First Mate and the like, and you do not have to be friends with them on Facebook. You can send a request to anybody. They did this with Covert Ops and they are doing it with this game. And that in itself is awesome!
All in all
Space Empires is really impressive for an TBS. For fans of the game they put in a lot of updates to make it accessible to everyone, from the hardcore TBS players to those who never played an TBS before. This is a really ambitious Facebook game and it is one you should look at if you like TBS you owe it to yourself to check out ... Space Empires: Battle for Supremacy.
